Peg People Tutorial

IMG_7543

Little peg people are so much fun to make (and play with!)

This is a project I have wanted to do for a little while now – but the thought of painting faces kinda put me off. So after having a think about it – I decided not to paint them. I think they still ooze character and have their own personalities.

The clothes were super simple to make – and I’m wishing I’d made these ages ago! (Why did I wait!?!)

If you would like to create your own Peg Family you can buy the kit here, otherwise –  here’s how to do it:

What you need:
– Family of Wood Peg People
– Selection of felt
– Buttons
– Needle and thread (I use embroidery cotton)
– Scissors
– Glue (optional)

What to do:

From your squares of felt, cut out some simple shapes to transform into the clothing pieces  for each family member.

Simple rectangles and semi-circles work well for clothing. I used a long skinny rectangle as a scarf. You’ll need to test them on your peg dolls to make sure they fit. (much like real people, peg sizes can slightly vary in height and width!) Adjust if needed and once your happy with the size you can continue.

Wrap your doll in the clothing piece and secure with a stitch or glue. Add a button for embellishment if you wish.

** Tip- When adding the scarf, be gentle. I played with mine way too much and the fringe started to break!

To make the hat, fold the triangular shape in half long ways. Stitch along the long side. I found if you pull the stitches tight as you go, it gives a cute little bend to the hat.

You could also add a bead or bell to the top for a cute little pixie look!

To attach the hat to the head, add a tiny bit of glue to the head, and stretch the hat over the top.

** Tip – If you choose to add a decorative stitch around the base of the hat, this will decrease the stretchiness of the felt. Maybe make the hat slightly larger to ensure a good fit.

To give my dolls hair, I simply plaited some embroidery thread and secured with glue. The hat for this one had to be made slightly bigger to fit over.

And that’s it! You now have your own peg family to love and care for!

Let me know in the comments what you think about the faceless family. Do you think they still have character? Or do you think they look unfinished?

And if you have created a peg family, please attach a picture of link – I’d love to see them!

Thank for stopping by – and Happy Crafting!

Happy Easter!

.Hi lovelies!

I hope you are all having a wonderful Easter break, however you may celebrate!

You may remember me talking previously in other posts about having an Easter tree. This year – it turned out a little different as Miss 4 took over the decorating. She wanted to have a little Easter corner on the TV Cabinet, so this is her creation. She painted the little ceramic bunny, and used some of our mini Christmas trees to hang the eggs on.

Good Friday was our annual family trip to the zoo. The year was extra special as the zoo had Dinosaurs!

Yesterday (Easter Saturday) we did the family thing – visiting my parents house, having BBQ lunch and eating wayyyy to much!
As it was my nieces first Easter – I made her a little bunny!

Hoppy Easter from House of Nicnax and the Little Craft House.

Easter Sunday started at 6.45am. Not too bad really – compared to previous years! The Easter bunny had to hide the eggs inside this time – as it was a little wet out!

We then spent the rest of the day relaxing!

Tomorrows plan is movies in the morning with the kids, visiting a few friends, and then back home to chill!

How’s your Easter been? Hope your having a good one!

Happy Easter!

My New Crafty Business

For the last 5 or so years I have run my own little handmade business, (House of Nicnax) making owl doorstops! I must admit that the ‘owl’ craze has hung around longer than I could ever imagined! Never did I think that my little hobby would turn into a business and that I would be selling regularly at markets, online and through Facebook!

It really has been a crazy little ride for me! I have enjoyed it so much along the way – and I don’t have plans to stop anytime soon! While people love and want my owls – I will continue to make them!

But in saying that – It was time I expanded a little.

Back in July I started to sell crafting supplies as well. I love being able to buy a whole range of gorgeous supplies, and sell them to amazingly clever people to create some awesome handmade items!

As of last weekend, I took a huge step. I decided to make the “supplies” my new business! So now I run TWO businesses!!!

So now I would like to officially introduce you to ……….The Little Craft House

The Little Craft House. Craft Supplies in Australia. Wood beads, scrabble tiles, E6000 glue

My sales for TLCH will be through Ebay, however I have created a Facebook and Instagram account as well to promote any sales, new products and to hopefully share some of the clever creations people make!

I’d really appreciate it if you pop over and check them out!

So that’s about it for now. Lots of late nights ahead for me!

Wish me luck!

Happy crafting!
